I’ve Become the Nosy Neighbor!

I’ve become the nosy neighbor! The one who watches every car that passes by our house on the way up the hill. “Ooh, look, she has company; I wonder who that can be?” Some cars putt along at 10 MPH to save the dirt road and to appease our neighbor. Some tear up the road, probably damaging their tires, raising dust, and definitely raising the ire of our neighbor. The delivery trucks are the worst, probably because they’re on a time clock. Sometimes, someone leaves and then comes right back home again. Did they forget something? Was the errand short? One time, the neighbors kept driving up and down the hill, faster than normal. I finally texted them, concerned that perhaps someone was at the ER. Turned out, they were throwing their son a birthday party at the local pizza place, and the parents kept forgetting things! Picture: our road and our house on the left.

Although I’m not very good at makes and models, I usually recognize most of the local cars. A red pickup, however, is a red pickup – they all look red and pickup-y to me. We actually do have a red pickup, but I always know it’s ours because of the back window. We were told that there are two reasons people break the back window: because they tossed firewood into the pickup bed, or they loaded an All-Terrain Vehicle too fast. Well, ours was the firewood. We mended the window by gluing a piece of plexiglass behind the driver’s seat. Makes for good conversation! When out on the road, most drivers wave as they drive by. It’s an understood culture here – sort of like saying, “I’m here for you if you ever need anything,” even though we don’t know one another. We were on our way to Kalispell one morning, and halfway up the long, LONG hill out of town, we came upon a stalled pickup. We stopped to help. There was no cell phone service – already too far from the towers – and the man asked us to call his wife when we got to Hot Springs. Floyd thought it was a better idea to turn around and drive him home to his wife in Plains. People do that sort of thing all the time here. It’s a great place to live.

Wow! It’s March Already!

And it’s finally snowing! Floyd had to miss his Bible study this morning. The deer are poking through the snow, looking for food, and the birds who have arrived early are looking a bit confused. It’s not time to plant a garden yet, although we have started our tomato plants inside. We have “grow lights” already set up, and I’m trying to find the warming mats. How can I lose things in such a small space? I usually send you beautiful pictures. Well, here’s one of our ugly garden after a winter of windstorms and not much snow. Wait till you see it this summer!

A Wedding First!

By the time you read this, we will be enjoying the first wedding of a grandchild! Our oldest son’s youngest son is getting married. In February, I was invited to the wedding shower in the Spokane area. Floyd was getting over a cold, so our younger son came and picked me up and took me to Spokane. A six-hour drive for him on his half-day off: So kind! I attended the shower the following day and then rode back home to Plains with the future bride and groom. They met with Floyd to plan what he is to say as the officiant of the wedding. Then they attended church with us the following day and took the scenic route back to Spokane. It was a busy, joyous weekend. More about the wedding next month.

A Delighted Heart

The Bible study on Psalm 119 is finished, but not yet published. Coming up with a title was tricky because every good title was already taken. One of them was even about Psalm 119, written by Christine Somebody-or-other! I guess there is “nothing new under the sun” (Ecclesiastes 1:9), and “the writing of many books is endless” (Eccl. 12:12)! Anyway, here is my first “Book Cover Reveal:” Tah-Dah! We’ll let you know when the eBook is available on the website.

May God’s Word be your delight. Blessings, Christine
