Easter

Christ is Risen! He is Risen, Indeed!

I love Easter – or as they call it around here: “Resurrection Sunday.” I have loved it since I was very little. I usually got a new dress, shoes, and white gloves. I had a little book of children’s prayers that was my “Bible.” The music at that church in upstate New York was glorious, with a pipe organ and a choir. When I got home, I would sing the first line of my favorite hymn over and over until my mother begged me to stop. “Christ the Lord is risen to-da-ay! Hallelujah!”

When I was ten years old, we had moved to Colorado. I attended a class for children about the meaning of Easter, and it was then, that I realized that Jesus had died for my sins. All He wanted from me was love and that I would follow Him all my life. My ten-year-old sins were a heavy burden, and I gladly turned from them, giving them to Him, asking for His forgiveness, and thanking Him for His love.
What a joyful day! This year we spent Resurrection Sunday with our new church family. We sat by the river for a sunny sunrise service, ate wonderful food at a loud and crowded brunch, and then worshipped with like-minded new friends. One of the young mothers in the church writes and arranges music, and a choir sang one of her arrangements. Both messages – at the sunrise service and in our church – were given by our pastor, and we are weekly so thankful for him and his family and for his commitment to “rightly handle the Word of Truth” (2 Timothy 2:15). Pray for your pastor that he weekly approaches God’s Word with reverence and with a passion to communicate it well.

New Eyes

After Easter, my life was dominated by two weeks of cataract surgeries and follow-up visits, which are now over, with one post-op still to come, lots of eye drops, and finally new glasses. It has been a very interesting time. They don’t actually knock you out, just give a relaxant. For the first surgery, I was awake and aware of bright lights, cool liquids, and work on my eye, but pleasantly unaffected by all they were doing. The second time, they made sure I was not aware! I am looking forward to having my vision cleared up. It’s actually tricky typing this letter. I can’t always see where a letter is to correct it!

The Orchid

As you can see, my orchid, which survived a desperately needed transplant, seems to be very happy. These flowers are so beautiful, and so intricate, perfect in their symmetry and the blend of colors. I have a friend who loves Jesus very much. We were enthusing about the morning rainbows around here. “God is such a ‘show-off!’” she exclaimed with reverence. I think the orchid is a good example of that. God loves beautiful things, and creates them for His – and our – admiration . . .appreciation . . . awe.

Celebration!

The wedding of our grandson and his wife was a wonderful day of celebration. Although it was March, it was an outdoor wedding on a hilltop. The sun shone through most of it, although the wind was a bit chilly. Floyd was honored to officiate, and it was lovely to have so many family members on both sides. Almost 200 guests sat in a beautiful clearing and sang and laughed and worshiped with the newlyweds.

Two of our neighbors have chickens and give us eggs. Aren’t they beautiful?

New Publication: Psalm 119

Floyd’s been working on getting my Psalm 119 Bible study published, but it takes a lot of finagling. We hope it will be coming out in May. Look for the paperback and for an ebook.

May the thoughts of Jesus’s resurrection fill each day – not just Easter – with purpose and joy.

Blessings,

Christine

Note from Floyd. I apologize for the lateness of this newsletter. So much has happened since you received the last one, but we don’t want to turn this newsletter into a full-fledged newspaper. We are “modifying” our website considerably. I will explain the reasons in the next newsletter. Unless...
