Granny News, Issue #003 -- It's been wild and its not over yet
July 06, 2024

It's been a wild ride. Don't think it's over yet.

PREVIOUS STUDENT

One of my previous students is ministering in an African country. She’s married with four small children. She wrote:

“So I’ve been going hard at learning Swahili! Every chance I get, I practice, and I know I may sound like a small child with a learning disability, but by golly I would love to be able to speak fluently. My husband purchased me a beautiful NIV Bible in Swahili, and our wonderful, kind, patient gardener has been teaching me and my one year old Swahili and challenges me to improve. So the thought occurred to me, and this is an original thought and very much my own, perhaps I could read the Bible with him and ask questions in order to improve my Swahili. I would be learning, and perhaps he will be as well. I know. It’s a brilliant idea. And I most certainly am not ripping a page from your book, old timer.”

If you have read my book on evangelism "Evangelism for the Fainthearted," you’ll catch her drift. I’m envious of what she’s experiencing. Makes me want to do it all over again.

Her latest letter:

“This last weekend we had our guard’s family over which was so fun! The kids played, I cooked with his wife. By the end of the day, his kids were calling him Mr. Elvis, and my kids were speaking in Kenyan accents. It was precious.”

I’m in tears. Of joy.

Deer. Mother and two fawns. If we're quiet in the house, they will eat Christine's flowers right off the deck. They sleep in the tall grass. Invisible. Had 24 in our field between us and our neighbor up the hill (east).

EVENTS?

~County-wide yearly yard sale weekend. We visiting around 200 of them. Well, eight, at least.

~Plains' Day, June 4th: parade, free ice cream at the bank, lots at the fairgrounds, but we got tired spending most of our time at the library tent.

~4th of July: fireworks, free pancake breakfasts (VFW paid), free hamburgers & hotdogs lunch, Music! Country, of course.

I would have put some photos in this newsletter, but Christine said she would stop reading if it went longer than a page.

Our local church: the current town mayor was a pastor of another church for 21 years, the head elder is a local judge, five retired pastors, awesome music, very biblical sermons.

We are in the process of not-so-slowly inviting the neighbors over for meals. Offering to help in any way that our almost decrepit bodies will allow.
