In our 52+ years of marriage, we have travelled and travelled and traveled. 

Gadgets. I have always been gadget-happy anywhere we went. As time went on, our gadgets and accessories got more complicated. We experienced the first computer, the Sinclair, the size of a normal-sized book (https://www.cnn.com/2021/09/17/tech/clive-sinclair-death-zx-computer-cec/index.html), and played hours of computer games. I wrote my first book on a Kaypro. They called it was portable. Uh, no, it was luggable at 29 pounds. A blue metal box (aluminium) with a keyboard as the lid, a 9” CRT green screen and two 5¼-inch double-density single-sided floppy disk drives. A Zilog Z80 microprocessor and 64 Kilobytes of RAM.

Clothing. I still love wearing Austrian jackets. I still own my first leather Russian coat (long) and my Russian fur hat that I bought at an outdoor market in Chelyabinsk, in Siberia.

Travel Items. Suitcases, backpacks, special belts and pouches for hiding our passports. We’ve run through so many different so-called necessities at the time, that I wonder how we would have survived without them.

But gadgets and clothing and travel items come and go with the seasons, the cultures, personal preferences, AND the aging process. I had to sell my form-fitted Austria ski boots when I got my first metal knee.

The one thing that we always depended on was our good health. And as we got older, the gadgets diminished, the clothing grew larger and the travel items dwindled down to the bare minimum, like my indispensable sleep apnea machine. Do you know how that much that thing weighs for an old guy?
